WASHINGTON – The ONE Campaign today issued the following reaction to President Trump’s address to the United Nations General Assembly this morning.
Ian Koski, senior director of communications for North America at The ONE Campaign:
“America’s poverty-fighting foreign assistance programs are designed to help the world’s most vulnerable people, not to be used as a bargaining chip with the governments that represent them. We agree with President Trump that foreign aid should only be invested in programs and tools that are effective. Those investments should be constantly reviewed to ensure they are efficient and accountable, and after nearly two decades of reform and refinement, U.S. foreign aid is a better investment than ever before. But we disagree with the President’s notion that foreign aid is not already in America’s interest. Saving lives, promoting stability, building economies, preventing threats, and stopping diseases all benefit the United States.”
The ONE Campaign is a non-partisan policy and advocacy organization of more than 9 million people around the world taking action to end extreme poverty and preventable disease, particularly in Africa.
