About the award

The 2016 award winner Connected Development (CODE)

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were adopted in 2015 as a global compact between nations to improve the lives of the world’s poorest. They serve as a global blueprint to a better future, with goals of halving extreme poverty, halting the spread of HIV/AIDS and providing universal primary education, amongst others.

There has been significant progress to end extreme poverty and preventable disease throughout Africa. Individuals and organisations are employing innovative ideas and exciting approaches to transform lives across the continent. The ONE Africa Award celebrates these efforts and progress towards the SDGs. ONE applauds the progress made and looks forward to solutions for the challenges still ahead.

ONE recognises the Africa-driven, Africa-led advocacy efforts that have demonstrated success at a community, national or regional level. By honouring the commitment and progress on the ground, we hope to inspire new efforts and save more lives.
